CREDITPLAN · JAVIER’S ACCOUNT

My experience
with Mintos.

I’m Javier, a father and an individual investor. I’ve been using Mintos for two years in search of extra income. Here I describe how it is going, including payments received, costs and the money I am still waiting for.

Loans are working very well for me, but I am somewhat concerned about the amounts building up in delays.

THE AUTHOR

I'm Javier.

I’m in my forties and started trying Mintos a little at a time. Being able to withdraw cash gave me confidence to contribute more. On this website I share that journey and the sources behind the figures.

The commercial relationship with Mintos and advertising are part of Creditplan’s funding. I explain its funding in Transparency.

IDEAS IN MOVEMENT

Mintos from scratch.

Two minutes to get your bearings: what you buy, where payments come from and what you need to understand before investing.

Mintos from scratch.

Mintos is an investment platform. One account gives you access to different products, each with its own conditions and risks.

First understand what you buy and what can happen to your money.

Read the explanation and consult the sources
  1. Mintos from scratch.

Mintos is an investment platform. One account gives you access to different products, each with its own conditions and risks. First understand what you buy and what can happen to your money.

Locution: Mintos is an investment platform. Before you start, understand what you buy, where returns can come from, and when you can get your money back.

  2. One account. Different investments.

Loans, bonds, ETFs, shares, real estate assets, crypto ETPs and Smart Cash. Smart Cash invests in a money market fund; each product works differently. The map presents options, not a recommended allocation.

Locution: Mintos offers loans, bonds, ETFs, shares, real estate, crypto ETPs and Smart Cash, a money market fund. Each product works differently.

  3. With loans, you buy Notes.

Notes are securities backed by loans already issued by lending companies. The diagram connects those loans to the instrument you buy. This is one product example: the others have different structures.

Locution: With loans, you buy Notes: securities backed by loans that lending companies have already issued. Your investment is linked to those loans and their payments.

  4. A payment has different parts.

In this loan example, you receive €12: €10 of your capital and €2 in interest. Recovering your capital does not make the whole payment a profit. Illustrative example; it is not an expected return or my account.

Locution: Imagine a payment of twelve euros: ten return your capital, and two are interest. Only the interest is investment income. This is an illustrative example.

  5. Available and invested money follow different routes.

You can request available cash to be sent to your bank. Recovering an investment depends on timeframes, product rules and, when selling, demand. Immediate access is not guaranteed. Liquidity describes when you can turn an investment into available cash.

Locution: Available cash can be sent to your bank. Investments follow their own rules: you may need to wait or sell. An immediate exit is not guaranteed.

  6. Many investments can share one risk.

With loans, holding many Notes from the same lending company keeps that concentration. Spreading investments across companies can reduce exposure to one company, but does not remove the risk of losses. You can lose some or all of your capital. Regulation does not guarantee returns.

Locution: Spreading investments across lending companies reduces concentration, but does not remove risk. You can lose some or all of your capital.

  7. Look at what is deducted too.

Applicable costs and tax withholdings reduce what you receive. As well as payments, the total result can include changes in value and losses. Subtracting costs and tax withholdings from interest does not explain the total return.

Locution: Costs and tax withholdings reduce your payments. The total result also includes changes in value and losses. Interest does not tell the whole story.

  8. Understand first. Decide afterwards.

Read the product document, its risks, costs and exit conditions. Then compare the investment with your time horizon and the risk you can accept. On Creditplan you can continue with the guides and review my real experience.

Locution: Before investing, review the product, its risks, costs and exit conditions. Compare it with your time horizon and the risk you can accept.
